When Archie was 1 we celebrated with a huge party in London, it might have gone into the next day, and took many days to recover from. When Jack was 1 we blew a candle off a cake with about 4 friends. In a very short space of time the excitement of a child’s first birthday slipped quietly into routine. But what about the first birthday of my blog!! Yes, I know its exciting but amazingly some of you lucky people have been reading these Friday morning ditties for 12 whole months.
I started the 4 Low 4 Adventure blog thing way back in August 2019 and you’d be amazed at how little traction an overweight middle aged blogger gets in this world of over information and fake news spread by the youthful bikini clad vegans of this world, but I am realistic 4 Low 4 Adventure is hardly Love Island so my sights were never aimed too high. My target audience tend to also be over weight and middle aged, or related to me and quite often both – So thank you for staying with me for so long!
Being stuck here for the whole summer and likely until Christmas is now as welcome as a fart in a space suit…perhaps that expression needs an upgrade…being stuck here is as welcome as a burp in a face mask! I feel our own family isolation from the UK more keenly than ever right now, so knowing that you are reading this is a warming feeling that I love and can’t really explain. Maybe I should use this as a chance for reflection on the highlights of the last 12 months to remind me what fun we have had.
Really the first major adventure was the Solo Camping Trip last August, not something I have repeated as I don’t like the feeling of being drunk, sweaty, and alone!! I have tried my hand at giving you all my opinion when you didn’t ask for it when I wrote the “how to be a good expat” looking back I am not sure I would change a thing! We took you to Cape Town, Sri Lanka and Georgia on holiday and had many grand plans for 2020 that we canned in place of Home Schooling. You have endured me regurgitating my letters from 15 years ago in Iraq, and suffered me getting stuck in the desert, again, and again….
I am not sure what the next 12 months will bring in terms of adventure, we have grand plans for Oman, UK and Namibia in 2021 but the COVID fairies will control the success of each of those.
So watch this space, and stick along for the ride, who knows what is next.

An iridescent bright spot on This Covid Life has been 4L4A. Long may it continue. I award the author 8.5 desert roses out of 10 for year 1 blogging. Perhaps year 2 could see some spin-off stories from year 1 content and a podcast version modelled on the Beeb’s GOAT, DID.
You obviously haven’t subscribed to the fascinating sleep inducer that is “Constructing Education in a Digital World”
Available from Spotify, Apple, Google etc etc

8.5 is still high praise indeed, I’ll take that happily.
