They say there are two types of men, those that pee in the shower and liars. It’s the same for parenting through the summer of 2020. It was either shit, or you are lying.
We’ve all had those moments at the end of a week when you can’t work out if the sore throat you have is from all the shouting at the children or if that heartless bitch ‘Rona has finally caught up with you and a bit of isolation is coming your way. I think we all agree it hasn’t been easy, parenting in 2020 has been a solid 1 out of 10.
Now that the first glimmers of light have started to show themselves at the end of this long dark tunnel, we can’t just sit here and wait for it to come to us, I am stomping down the tunnel with 2 boys over my shoulders to fan the flames of that light and to start enjoying this winter one way or another. School is back, the sun is starting to be bearable, the water is starting to get colder and the sand is almost, almost cold enough to walk on sometimes, it feels like the equivalent of a very very long thaw.
Beach days, Island Days, Desert Trips, Water skiing, Road Trips, Bike Rides, Picnics, Fishing trips, Dog Walks, Bonfires, Getting Stuck, Tennis, BBQ’s, long lunches outside, socialising with more than 6 people – This is what the winter is all about in Qatar, this is what the end of the summer means and we need to run head long into winter with open arms. My boys have become lethargic, and they are not long journey fit, they need to get back into the car, back on the road, back in the wild and remember what it is like to be running in the open without AC and with that fun hoover ‘Rona behind us.
The new normal is not as fun as the old normal, but for now its all we have, so we might as well enjoy it.

So true! Sadly there seem to be less sinks in bedrooms these days!!

Not bloody over here… Getting worse again. The catering contractors, in their infinite wisdom, have just instigated masks in the actual dining room. For the first time since the whole thing started. Enough already.
